Adeline Vispi Obituary

Adeline Marie Bertinelli Vispi, age 86, of Claymont, DE, passed peacefully on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Carbondale, PA on December 22, 1931, Adeline was the daughter of the late Nazzareno Bertinelli and Angelina (Crosa) Bertinelli.  She was a proud graduate of P.S. DuPont High School, class of 1949.  She worked briefly at an insurance agency and left the workforce 56 years ago to become a full-time homemaker and caregiver.

Adeline enjoyed spending time with family and friends from Holy Rosary Church, ROW, and the 49’ers.  She loved bus trips to the casinos, always winning something, and one time carrying home a large television on her lap.  But what she loved most was being surrounded by family.  Adeline loved to cook and was known for large holiday dinners in her basement kitchen with lots of homemade Italian dishes, welcoming all who were able to attend – the more, the merrier.  She loved Rehoboth Beach and spending time at her beach house.

Adeline was a loving caregiver to many, taking care of her parents, in-laws, and husband over the years.  She also watched her grandchildren during summer breaks and as needed, oftentimes caring for them at a moment’s notice. Adeline will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother “Nonnie”.

In addition to her parents, Adeline was predeceased by her husband, Dino Vispi; her daughter, Diane (Vispi) Banning; her brother, Andy Bertinelli; and her sister, Norma (Bertinelli) Fairweather.  She is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law, David and Michelle Vispi of Newark, DE; son-in-law, Ron Banning of Lewes, DE; grandchildren, Lauren Vispi, Megan Vispi, Ron Banning, Jr. and Michael Banning (Greta); four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Family would like to thank many people for their kindness and caring, including the doctors, nurses, office staff, pharmacists, therapists and aides who cared for Adeline over the years and who she came to regard as friends.  Special thanks go to her best friend, Julie Kask who was always there to help with doctors’ visits, shopping, social trips and just spending time with Adeline.  Adeline considered Julie like a sister and the family could not have asked for a better friend.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 3200 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m., and a Committal Service at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE at 1:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Claymont Fire Company, 3223 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703; or Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Adeline’s name.
