Elizabeth M Starr

Elizabeth M. Starr, 91, of New Castle, DE passed away on January 25, 2018 in Seasons Hospice at Christiana Hospital.

Elizabeth was born in Philadelphia, PA on July 8, 1926. She attended St. Timothy’s Grade School and graduated from St. Hubert’s High School in 1944. Upon graduating from High School, Elizabeth worked as a bookkeeper at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. Elizabeth married Joseph J. Starr on April 7, 1951 and moved to Wilmington, DE. In 1967, they moved to New Castle, DE. where she has lived for the last 50 years. She was a wonderful wife, mother, nana, mom-mom and above all her gift of unconditional love made us who we are today. She was the strongest woman we will ever know. Elizabeth enjoyed being with her fun loving neighbors, her ornery Monday night card group, her bowling buddies and her many life-long friends.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Joseph J. Starr and her parents. Rose and Earl Giberson.

Elizabeth is survived by her 4 children, Joseph Starr (Karen), Patricia Carello (Frank), Barbara Starr and Geraldine Shoop. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Friends may call on Monday evening, January 29, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 521 Harmony Street, New Castle, DE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday morning, January 30, 2018 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Burial will immediately follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park at 220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Seasons Hospice at the Christiana Hospital, American Cancer Society or the Wilmington Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
