Private Burial

John Joseph Keenan III, age 80, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully in the early morning of October 26, 2017 at Foulk Manor South with his wife Arlene by his side.

Born on October 4, 1937 in Troy, NY, he was the son of the late Dr. & Mrs. John J. Keenan, Jr.  John graduated from Georgetown University with a B.A. in Economics. He had a long career in insurance, and retired from the Risk Management department of Astra Zeneca after 24 years.

John relished his retirement years & traveling the world with Arlene. His fondest memories included Caribbean cruises they took to various islands, trips to Ireland, witnessing the completed Confederate Memorial in Stone Mountain, GA & navigating their way on the infamous Snebley Hill Rd in Sedona, AZ. On weekends at home, you could find him volunteering at the Mary Campbell Center, where he devoted 30 years of service, or enjoying the company of his beloved grandchildren.

As a lifelong history buff, he was especially knowledgeable about American history, particularly the World War II years.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Arlene, of Wilmington; his son, Christopher (Lisa) of Louisville, KY; his daughter, Beth Meyers (Steve) of Thornton, PA; and his grandchildren, Nicole, Connor, Nolan, Clay and Brendan. He is also survived by his brother, George (Jane) of Brooklyn, NY and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister, Alma K. Rentzepis.

John’s family wishes to thank the staff at Foulk Manor South for their care and compassion and making his last days as tranquil as could be.

Visitation will be held Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 12:30pm, with a Memorial Mass at 1:30pm at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church 4701 Weldin Rd, Wilmington, DE. Interment will be private.
