Loretta A. Lawson "Mom" Mom" passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, June 25th.

Loretta was the daughter of the late Stanley and Josephine Andruczyk of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. She was a true matriarch of her family encompassing five children, fourteen grandchildren and fourteen more great-grandchildren with the last one due in October.

Loretta grew up in Sugar Notch, Pennsylvania, and married her high school sweetheart, Jim Lawson, before moving to Delaware and eventually settling in New Castle to raise her family.  After her twin girls reached first grade, she began working full time as an administrative secretary for the Colonial School District at William Penn High School and District Office until her retirement in the early 1990s.

Loretta enjoyed music (especially Polkas & Elvis), dancing (at the Jitterbug Joint during her teenage years, and later showing off her moves at weddings with her cousin, Jim Anthony), Bethany Beach (at her second home in Ocean View, DE), winter excursions to Naples, Florida (25 years straight!), shopping (bargains only), and spending time with friends, from the oldest (Mildred Hein and Shirley & Paul Caldwell) to the newest (Dale, Lydia & her swim club ladies). Above all else, she enjoyed creating lasting memories with her family, especially her grandchildren, of whom she fiercely and passionately protected; in fact, none of her grandchildren ever could do any wrong, at the expense of her own children or their spouses.

Loretta was predeceased by her parents, brothers Joseph “Bud” and Stanley “Whitey” Andruczyk, and son, David Scott Lawson, of Middletown, DE. She leaves to cherish her memory, husband and eternal soulmate of 70 years, James A Lawson, Jr., with whom she planned to celebrate 65 years of marriage on June 28th.  She will be missed dearly by her four children James A Lawson III (Barbara) of Cohranville, PA, Jeffrey A Lawson (Lisa) of Newark, DE, Lori A Economos (Alex) of Newark, DE, and Lynn Testaiuti of West Chester, PA; loving daughters-in-law Pam Lawson of Middletown, DE, and Richele Lawson of Wilmington, DE; proud grandchildren Jais, Kaiti, Scott, Kim, Amy, Jeffrey, Ross, Alex, Marco, Adam, Cole, Sydni, Eric and Victoria; and great-grandchildren Emma, Caraline, William, Logan, Olivia, Cooper, Taylor, Madison, Charlotte, Nora, James, Delaney, Kallie and baby girl Chas.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Seasons Hospice within the Christiana Care Hospice Unit for their excellent service during her last days, especially Nurse Brette for her warm, gentle care and compassion to our family.

A Funeral Service will be held Friday, June 30, 2017 at 12pm at New Castle United Methodist Church, 510 Delaware Street, New Castle, DE, where friends may visit with the family from 10am – 12pm.  Burial will be private.
