Margaret L. Cooper, age 92, of New Castle, DE, formerly of Dayton, OH passed away on Monday, November 6, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loved ones.

She graduated from High School in 1944.

Margie worked in the X-Ray department at St. Francis Hospital. She retired in 1991 after working for 23 years for Howard Johnson’s.

Mom was a fun loving person, she loved to travel, she enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable garden. She always looked forward to a good game of “Skip-bo” with niece and nephew, “Girl Frani” and “Boy Franny”. She liked all kinds of music from country, gospel, to rock ‘n’ roll. She loved her man, Rod Stewart; Margie’s admiration for Rod was having an 8”X10” photo on her night stand. It was given to her by her son Mark. Margie enjoyed doing her laundry; she even had a particular way to have her towels and pants folded.

In her younger days, she enjoyed walking with us all. She often said “Take me off my corner and I’m lost”, “Show me a landmark and I’ll find my way home.” Margie loved dancing and “Kicking up her heels”. She enjoyed people, every time she saw you, she gave you a warm welcome with a big hug and a rub on the back.

Margaret was loved by everyone who knew her and a second Mom to many. She was always there to comfort and listen to anyone with open arms in their time of need. Margie was over joyed when some of her Ohio family came for a surprise visit this past summer.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harry A. Cooper who passed away in 2001 after 55 years of marriage. Also predeceased by her three sons, Michael, Harry, Brian; and her two daughters, Theresa and Rebecca; her brother, Charles McCormick; and her sister, Betty Hedges.

Margie is survived by her son, Mark Cooper of New Castle; her four daughters, Mary Sylvester (Allen) of Newark, Judy Gibbons (Bob with whom she lived) of New Castle, Michelle Leary (Jerry her late husband) from Roanoke, IN, Barbara Cooper of New Castle; her sister-in-law, Justina Schlippert from Reading, PA; her 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Season’s Hospice for their compassionate care of our mother.

A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Gebhart Funeral Home, 531 Delaware Street, New Castle, DE 19720 at 11 am. The Visitation will start at 10 am at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
