Sara Vickroy Mitchell "SAS" died on October 24, 2009 at Christiana Hospital. She succumbed after a five year battle with multiple myeloma, a blood cancer.

Sara was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. While attending Winchester Thurston School, she participated in many school sports, volunteer and church youth groups. Sara began a lifetime love of fishing at age four with her grandfathers. She continued fishing with them throughout college and always returned home for opening day of trout season. She was predeceased by both of her grandfathers, Dr. Harold L. Mitchell and Charles William Bowser. Sara attended the college of Wooster in Ohio and graduated with a degree in Social Work at West Chester University in PA. In 1983, she began her career with the Division of Family Services in Wilmington, DE. She was very passionate about her work. She worked there for twenty-five years in many responsible positions. Sara served as a liaison with Christiana Hospital's Neo Natal Intensive Care Unit. Sara also served as Chaplain of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #74. Sara loved the Chesapeake Bay, fishing, crabbing, boating, cooking and gardening. Most of all, she loved her son, Jacob. She was a devoted, supportive mother and fought hard to spend as much time with him as possible.

Sara wished to thank James, Ruthie, the Greens, Pat and her other friends for their support, help and care giving. She also wanted to thank Dr. Steven Grubbs and his staff for their years of care.

Sara is survived by her son, Jake Bear Johnson and her dog, Luke.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 11 am at the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, 503 Duncan Road, Wilmington, DE 19809. Sara hoped people will share their memories in an informal service.
