Thomas “Smitty” Smith went to be with the Lord on July 8, 2017, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Smitty grew up in Wilmington, DE and attended St. Helena’s Grade School and graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1970.

Smitty was co-owner, along with his brother, Jim Smith of Jack Smith’s Towing and Service Center located on Philadelphia Pike in Wilmington, DE – which was started by his grandfather in 1926.

Smitty was a member of the Claymont Fire Company and an avid supporter of the Brandywine Hundred Fire Company. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #74, Moose International Lodge #847 and the Knights of Columbus.

One of Smittys’ favorite things to do was to sing Karaoke to Toby Keith’s “I Love this Bar”.

He and his wife, Lorraine, started the well-known Christmas light tradition at 1900 Prior Road in Wilmington – which has grown over the years with all family members participating.  Smitty described the 700,000+ lights as being “so bright that his parents can see them from heaven.” This Christmas, he’ll see them by their side.

Smitty was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Mildred Smith, and his stepdaughter, Angela Ouly. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Lorraine Talarico-Smith; stepson, Anthony Ouly; 5 grandchildren, Thomas Wick, Stefanee Newton, Tim Reitdorf and Anthony and Isabella Ouly; brothers, John Smith, James (Eva) Smith; sisters, Judy Smith, Margaret (Ralph) Thompson; and many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will take place Friday evening, July 14, 2017, from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 3200 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, where there will be no calling hours. Interment will immediately follow in Lawn Croft Cemetery, 1000 W. Ridge Road, Linwood, PA 19061.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, 100 W. 10th Street, #1002, Wilmington, DE 19801; Compassionate Care Hospice, 405 East Marsh Lane, Suite 4, Newport, DE 19804; or Faithful Friends Animal Society,12 Germany Drive, Wilmington, DE 19804.
