Adliee Parks Koppenhaver, age 84, of New Castle, DE passed away February 27, 2018 at Heartland Hospice House, Wilmington, DE.
Adilee Parks was born at home on July 24, 1933 in Wilmington, DE to Lee Cropper Parks and Floyd Vernon Parks. The family subsequently moved to Elsmere where Adilee attended Oak Grove School and H.C. Conrad High School. She graduated from the University of Delaware in 1955. Moving to New York City, she married George Claypoole from Pennsville, NJ. They raised four children in northern New Jersey in the town of Glen Rock. When all the children were in school, she worked at Helen Bohn Bridals in Washington Township, NJ; Harrison Associates in Passaic, NJ and Crown Cork and Seal in North Bergen, NJ.
Returning to her family of origin and Delaware in 1982, she worked for Phoenix Steel until its collapse, then sold cars briefly until an opening at Crown Cork and Seal corporate Headquarters in Philadelphia gave her an opportunity to return to that company in Sales Administration. She moved to Bucks County for the subsequent 7 years until, in 1993 she met and married Larry Koppenhaver. For the following three years, she commuted to Philadelphia from their new home in New Castle, DE at which time she retired.
Larry and Adilee spent their retirement traveling over the US, Mexico and Canada in their motor home “Senior Momentum” and on the Chesapeake Bay on their boat “The Ship of Tools” returning each time to their home in New Castle. They also attended the Academy of Lifelong Learning in Wilmington.
Adilee was predeceased by her parents and by siblings, Marybeth Parks Kemske, Charles Cropper Parks; and grandson, Maxwell McHugh Bacon. She is survived by her husband, Larry Koppenhaver; children, Jesse Parks Claypoole, Jennifer Claypoole Chafkin, David Powell Claypoole, Dana Claypoole Bacon; grandchildren, Isabelle Chafkin, Isaac Chafkin, Joe Chafkin, Chafen De Lao, Katherine Claypoole, Emily Claypoole, Grace Bacon, Olivia Bacon; and sister, Geraldine Parks Coyle.
A Brunch will be held for family and friends on Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 10am to 12pm at the Arsenal on the Green, 30 Market Street, New Castle, DE 19720, where a Memorial Service will follow at 12pm. Burial will be held privately.
