Dorothy C. Evans

Dorothy Evans, age 85, of Claymont, DE passed away April 24, 2018 at the Heartland Hospice House in Wilmington, DE.  

Dorothy, proud of her Irish heritage was a member of the New Castle County Irish Society, Claymont Historical Society and Holy Rosary Catholic Church.  Dorothy loved to travel with her husband Jim to Ireland, Irish music cruises in the Caribbean, and to Irish music events especially to see Tony Kenny, Irish singer.  Dorothy enjoyed vacations to Cape May, NJ, Rock Hall, MD and Avon, NC with her beloved husband, Jim and daughter, Donna.  Dorothy played the banjo and the piano and loved telling stories about Claymont history, how she came to live in Claymont and how she met her husband. She was also a dedicated QVC shopper. 

Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving and fun husband, James Evans; her parents, Dorothy and Cyril Comfort; brother James Comfort and his wife, Rose Comfort; her adored cocker spaniel, Shannon; and several other family members and friends.  She is survived by her devoted daughter, Donna E. Hernandez and son in law, Philip Hernandez of Newark, DE; her aunt, Joan Hitner of Lansdale, PA; several extended family members and good family friends. 

The family wants to thank the staff of Heartland Hospice House for the care provided to Dorothy and her family during her final days.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 10am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 3200 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703.  Friends may visit with the family Wednesday evening, May 2, 2018 from 6pm to 8pm at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703.  Burial will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle, DE.
