Edward Franklin Gillespie, age 59, of Clayton, DE passed away February 15, 2018 in Seasons Hospice at Christiana Hospital.
Ed was born in Hagerstown, MD on April 24, 1958. He was raised in New Castle, DE and attended DeLaWarr High School, where he played snare drum in the High School Band. Ed married Sherry A. Cole on December 4, 1976. In 1978, they welcomed their first son, Brian, and a second son, Michael, followed in 1980. Ed worked for 18 years with the State of Delaware, most recently as Physical Plant Maintenance Supervisor with the Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs, where he earned the respect of his many colleagues. He enjoyed his work, camping with family and friends, music, dancing, participating in parades and concerts with the Citizens’ Hose Company Band, spending time with his beloved cats and cheering on his favorite football team, the EAGLES!
Ed was preceded in death by his father, John B. Gillespie; mother, Charlotte F. Gillespie; brother, Owen T. Gillespie; and sister, Katherine L. Gillespie.
Ed is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sherry A. Gillespie; sons, Brian E. Gillespie (Kathy), Michael A. Gillespie (Erica); 7 grandchildren, Justyn, Dylon, Kylee, Karl, Elizabeth, Sean and Emily, as well as his sister, Martha R. Curtis (Ken).
Friends may visit with the family Sunday, February 25, 2018 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Gebhart Funeral Home, 531 Delaware Street, New Castle, DE 19720. Memorial Service will be held at 10:00am Monday, February 26, 2018 at Gebhart Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.
