Elaine F. Durney
August 9, 2017Elaine F. Durney, age 80, of Wilmington, DE died peacefully on August 9, 2017.
Elaine was born on July 13, 1937 in Yonkers, NY, the only child of Francis Melella and Naomi Melella Daley. Due to the untimely death of her father, Elaine moved to Delaware and was lovingly raised by her mother and step-father, John Daley. Elaine graduated from Wilmington High School in 1955.
Elaine was a devoted and loving mother to her four boys. She loved the time spent with her children, especially at the beach and boating. Elaine was the owner of the former Drum Shop on Delaware Avenue. After the sale of the Drum Shop, she worked as bookkeeper for a privately owned company. Elaine was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #74, Wilmington, DE, where she enjoyed spending time with her friends.
Elaine was predeceased by her parents and longtime companion, Charlie Marshall. She is survived by her children, Philip Jr. and his wife, Nancy of Wilmington, DE, Timothy and his wife, Joan of Philadelphia, PA, twins, Frankie and Johnny of Charleston, SC. Elaine is also survived by her grandchildren, Nicole Durney, Dr. Philip Durney III, Lizbeth Giberson-Durney; and great-grandchild, Peyton Saienni.
The family would like to thank the staff of Parkview Nursing Home for their kindness, compassionate care and support throughout her stay.
Service and burial will be held privately.
