Melva Mantle McIntyre, age 93, formerly of 216 Schafer Blvd New Castle, DE died on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Millcroft Senior Living Facility in Newark, DE.
Mrs. McIntyre was born in Altoona, PA in 1926 and raised in Youngstown, OH, where she graduated from Boardman High School in 1944 and received her Bachelor’s degree in education from Youngstown State University in 1948. After briefly moving to Southern California, where she worked for the American Red Cross in LA General Hospital, she returned to Northern Ohio to commence her teaching career at Lloyd Elementary School. It was there that she met and married George V. McIntyre. The newlyweds then relocated to New Castle, DE in 1958. She taught at Minquadale Elementary and Manor Park Elementary prior to raising her family.
Mrs. McIntyre was predeceased by her beloved husband, George V. McIntyre and infant son, Scott McIntyre.
She is survived by two children, a daughter, Jane McIntyre Bennett and her husband Gary, of Bear, DE and a son, Timothy George McIntyre and his wife Eileen of Bristow, VA. She was very proud of her four granddaughters, Aubrey Bennett Smith of Unalaska, AK, Emily Elizabeth Bennett of Bear, DE, Meghan Eileen McIntyre and Michayla Catherine McIntyre, both of Bristow, VA.
Throughout her life Mrs. McIntyre was a supporter of the Nativity Episcopal Church in New Castle, enjoyed traveling with her husband, baking for family and friends, and spending time with her granddaughters.
A Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2019 from 9am to 10am at the Gebhart Funeral Home, 531 Delaware Street, New Castle, DE 19720, where a Memorial Service will begin at 10am. Mrs. McIntyre will be interred immediately following the service at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Hwy, New Castle, DE 19720.
