Velma Odessa Strazzella

Velma Odessa Strazzella, age 96, of Claymont, DE died on Friday, December 22, 2017 at Forwood Manor Nursing Home, where she lived for the past 9 years.

Velma was a Registered Nurse, she graduated from Wilmington General Hospital. Prior to that, she graduated from Bel Air High School in Bel Air Maryland. She was born on September 11, 1921.

After her marriage to Dr. Henry M. Strazzella on September 28, 1946, Velma retired from nursing to raise her family, relocating to Illinois where she and her husband lived in Peoria. She was fond of crochet and baking.

Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, her parents, Catherine and Russell Wilgis, her twin sister, Zelma Sheridan; and her nephew, Paul J. Sheridan III. She was also the last living member of the VitoRocco Strazzella family in her generation.

She is survived by her son, H. Russell Strazzella and his wife, Theresa; her grandsons, Russell Michael and Christopher Paul; and her two great grandsons, Dominic and Charlie.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 11am at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703, where friends may visit with the family from 10am to 11am. Burial will be in Bel Air Memorial Gardens in Bel Air, MD.
