Anne Rizzo, age 85, of Claymont, Delaware, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on September 23, 2023.
Born to Michael and Mary McNamara in the Kensington section of Philadelphia, she was raised among her extended Irish Catholic family which included her twin brother, Jim (Betty), brothers, Joe (Anne) and John (Barbara) and sisters, Mary (Bill) and Eileen (Bart), as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Anne graduated from Little Flower High School and went on to study nursing at Misericordia in Philadelphia, obtaining her R.N. certification. She worked at several hospitals and medical facilities in the Philadelphia area over her 30-year nursing career.
It was as she was graduating nursing school that she met the love of her life, Lou. When they married in 1960, Anne and Lou joined together their large extended families and embarked on a beautiful journey creating a family of their own. Anne and Lou settled in Delaware County, Pennsylvania.
Anne was the devoted mother of six children, Theresa (Bob Hendry); Tony; Anne (Karry Nusbaum); Louis (Michele); Eileen (Mike Ditto); and Christine (Ilmar Gasstrom).
Over the years, Anne was a loving aunt, godmother, and friend to many. Anne’s marriage to Lou was a true partnership. They launched several businesses over the years - from a daycare facility that allowed Anne to work at home with her children and put her nursing skills to use; to restaurants where Anne and Lou were “Mom & Pop” to a host of employees and patrons over the years.
In her later years, Anne was the doting grandmother to fifteen grandchildren. She remained devoted to her faith and to her husband throughout her life. She gave of her time and talents freely, caring for many family members and friends in need over the years. She will be remembered for her patience, kindness and beautiful smile.
