Barbara A.C. Temple Obituary

Barbara Ann (Charles) Temple, age 70, of Bear, Delaware passed away September 13, 2021.

Daughter of the late William Henry Charles and Shirley May (Glyer) Charles. Sister of Sandy Charles and Cindy Charles Kennel (Mark-Husband) and the late Clinton Mark Charles. Mother to Jessyca Erin (Temple) Clark and mother-in-law to Jason Clark. Grandmother to Wesley, Jocelyn, Abigail, Genevieve and Evelyn Clark.

Barbara was born in Wilmington, DE and grew up in the neighborhood of Ashbourne Hills in Claymont, DE. She graduated from Claymont High School, class of 1969. She then attended the University of Delaware and the prestigious Nursing School of Wilmington, graduating at the top of her class in 1973. With her RN degree secured she began her long and satisfying career with the Medical Center of Delaware in 1974. While employed she eventually began further schooling at Immaculata University and received her BSN in 2012.

After 42 years of employment with Christiana Care (formerly Medical Center of Delaware) and working almost entirely that span in the Labor and Delivery Department, it has been estimated that she assisted in the delivery of thousands of human beings into this world! She was a smart, dedicated employee with a caring, loving heart, and it gave her great pride and satisfaction to give back to the community with her service. There are quite a few parents that can attest to Barbara’s skills in the field of nursing, because their own children were born with Barbara standing at their side in the delivery room, providing her labor of love to all who happened to need her, or at times request her.

Barb’s greatest passion and love was her daughter Jessyca and her five grandchildren. The legacy of Barbara’s kind spirit, her love of music, and her care for her fellow man will live on through them. She was exceptionally close with her siblings and their families and so enjoyed spending holidays and other quality time with them whenever she could. Barbara enjoyed her time spent with friends from all aspects of her life, work, and church.

Besides her family, friends, and work, Barbara had a love for music. She could play the piano at an early age and later learned clarinet and guitar, playing music in various school bands and at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.

At the end of her life, Barbara was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2016 and fought a battle for her health, having several strokes and further kidney damage related to her health struggles. Barbara’s unshakable spirit encouraged her family and friends to persist in the face of many struggles. She ultimately passed away peacefully at home with family and her little dog Heidi that she bought when she first learned of her Multiple Myeloma diagnosis.

We will always carry her memory in our hearts.
