Caroline Brittingham Kuhn passed away in her home at the age of 89 on Sunday, January 30, 2022.
Caroline was born in Wilmington, DE on June 23, 1932 to George Sholes Brittingham and Bertha Grace Perkins. She married Kenneth Ivan Kuhn on August 11, 1950.
Caroline is survived by her daughter, Kristine Gullo; her son, Kurt I. Kuhn; her brother, Thomas Brittingham; as well as 5 grandchildren (one deceased) and two great grandchildren.
Caroline was many things to many people, and always a great listener. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, niece, cousin, and friend. Through these roles, she was known by many names: Caroline, Mom, Grams, Sissy, Darlin’, and Carolyn…although we never could figure out why Dad would introduce her as “Carolyn” instead of “Caroline.” We’re happy to say that, after Dad’s passing, she took claim back on “Caroline.” Oh, sweet Caroline, you will be missed by many.
In addition to being a great listener, she was a great worrier. Some may even say she was a card-carrying professional worrier. We think that is what made her such a great listener. She always had a genuine interest in personal conversations, and this was felt by all those that knew and spoke with her.
Her white brick house has been her sparkling clean castle since 1966. This was the location from which many baked goods were created for her loved ones. Her coveted snickerdoodle and angel food cake recipes will be used by generations that follow.
While never wanting to move, her final resting place is next to Dad and her grandson, “Chip” (Kenneth Jon Gullo), at Chester Bethel Cemetery. Here they find themselves reunited after years of being in separate worlds.
Services for Caroline are private, but please consider donations in her name to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, in lieu of flowers.
