Carrie Elisabeth "Betty" Dwyer

Carrie Elisabeth "Betty" Dwyer, age 88, of Elkton, MD passed peacefully at her home on the 24th of May 2021, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on the 4th of March 1933, her mother was the late Carrie Elisabeth “Libby” Grose, her step-father the late William Higgins and her father the late John Bayard Bush Sr.

Betty attended Krebs School in Newport, DE and then went on to Conrad High, where she played girls Basketball and Field Hockey.  She was a homemaker who took care of her children, her sister Shirley’s children and all of her neighborhood friend’s children.  Many weekends you could find a dozen or more children in her care. 

Betty could be found at least twice a week at Prices Lanes, Bowlerama, or Pleasant Hill Lanes bowling with her best friend Mary Malcom Burnstein and a couple of mornings playing Pinochle and other card games.  She and Mary continued their friendship and card playing for over 60 years.   In her younger years, she was a member of a Motorcycle Organization.

She loved spending time playing Spite and Malice (although she called it Spice-a-malice), Pennies, Liver Poole, Spades or any game of cards with her family and friends.  Many weekends were spent at the Delaware/Maryland/New Jersey Beaches camping, boating, fishing and/or crabbing.

Betty was an avid Crocheter, making bed spreads, blankets, pillows, etc … for each child, grandchild and expecting baby!   She enjoyed spending time with all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren as she babysat them all!

Predeceased:  Husband of more than 50 years, Paul George Dwyer born 3/9/28 – died 8/20/2004 and daughter Cheryne Lynn Smart born 5/10/57 - died 2/26/2019. Granddaughter Samantha Arnel Brown born 1/26/1994 -died 1/27/1994 and Great-Grandson of 18 years William James Bradley IV born 12/05/1992 - died 1/19/2010. 

Survivors:  1st Child - Son: William James and Daughter-In-Law Maureen Bradley of Claymont, DE; Grandson’s: William James Bradley III (late William James Bradley IV) and Richard Thomas Bradley both of Claymont, DE; Note: Mother of William J. III and Richard T. Bradley:  Wanda and Lance Johnson of Seaford, DE

2nd Child - Robert Thomas and Deborah English Bradley of Middletown, DE; Grandaughter Catherine Lynn “Katie” Brinsfield and Len Brinsfield of Milford, DE; and Grandsons: Matthew Thomas Bradley of Middletown, DE; Shane and Bryann Fair and Great Granddaughter: Aubrey all of Middletown, DE.

Married to Harold William Brown, father to 3rd – 6th  Children: 3rd Child - Deceased Daughter: Cheryne Lynn Brown Smart (3 Children); #1) Grandson: Gordon Joseph Bilodeau Sr and Sandy Marcie of Conowingo,MD 2) Great-Grandsons: Gordon Joseph & Erika Bilodeau and Great-Great Grandson: 3) Elias Bilodeau of Elkton,MD, Tyler Anthony Bilodeau & Ari Daniele Pauley and Great-Great Grandson: Braylon Bilodeau of Elkton, MD.   Timothy Edward & Caitlyn Bilodeau and expecting baby Bilodeau in Atlanta, GA - Military and Great-Grandson Jordan Bilodeau  #2) Granddaughter: Bettie Sue Smart Moore and Robert Moore, Two (2) Great Grandsons: Robert Paul Smart (1-Great Great Granddaughter: Alley) and Dillion Jacob Moore.  Two (2) Great Granddaughter Twins: Chelsie and Cheryne Moore.

 4th Child - Harold Owen Sr and Marlene Bradley of Elkton, MD: Granddaughters Jennifer Lynn Bradley and Holly Zoe Bradley Phipps & Jessica Ann Phipps of Middletown, DE,: Two (2) Great Grandchildren: Shelby Zoe and Jaxson Avery Phipps. Grandson: Harold Owen Bradley II of Elkton, MD.

5th Child - Sam Alan and Anita Arnel Brown of Salisbury, MD: Granddaughter Rebecca Lynn Deaver and Sheyene Allyson Brown, Grandsons: Sam Alan Brown II, Robert Austin Brown all of Salisbury, MD.

6th Child - Cynthia Lee and Vincent Dee Robinson of Elkton, MD: Granddaughter Carrie Ann Krause & Kyle Curtis Cassell of Elkton and Great Grandchildren: Paul Thomas Krause Jr and Sophia Lee Cassell.  Grandson: Vincent Dee II and Heather Lynn Robinson of Elkton, MD and Great Grandchildren: Vincent Dee Robinson III and Kacy Morgan Robinson of Elkton, MD.

Viewing will be held at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703 on Tuesday, June 1st 2021, where friends may arrive at 1 pm. Service will follow at 2 pm. Burial will be in Glebe Cemetery, New Castle, DE 19720.

The family will be pleased to have everyone meet after the interment at:  The American Legion Post 15, 129 W. Main St., Elkton, MD 21921
