Charles W. Hutchison

Charles “Charlie” Hutchison, age 79, of Wilmington DE, loving husband, beloved dad and grandfather, passed away surrounded by his loving family on May 16, 2023, after a short hospital stay. Charlie was one month shy of his 80th birthday.

Charlie was born on June 15, 1943, in Elkton, Maryland to George and Lula (McKelvey) Hutchison, one of six children.  Charlie graduated from Elkton High School in 1962, he then became employed at Thiokol Chemical Co., where he worked for 33 years. Charlie met his wife Nancy and they married in 1969, recently celebrating their 55th Wedding Anniversary. Their family grew to include two daughters, Kathryn and Sue Ann and two sons, Christopher and Daniel.

Charlie is predeceased by his parents, George and Lula Hutchison; his brothers, Irvin and Paul Hutchison; his sisters, Doris Sweetman and Shirley Schneider; his sons, Christopher G. Hutchison and Daniel E. Hutchison; and his stepdaughter, Sue Ann Gibson.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Nancy (Ellis) Hutchison; his daughter and son in law, Kathryn and Harold McGinnes; his grandchildren, Christopher Hoerner (Faith), Jordan McGinnes, John Gibson (Desiree), James Gibson; step grandchildren, Nichole Norris and Rebecca McGinnes; eight great grandchildren, number nine due in August; his sister, Kathleen Brumfield; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his cat, Mercy.

Visitation will be held from 10am -11am at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont DE 19703 on Thursday, May 25, 2023, where a funeral service will begin at 11am.   Burial will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE 19720.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Brandywine Hundred Fire Company, 1006 Brandywine Blvd., Wilmington, DE 19809.
