In Loving Memory

Elizabeth “Liz” Carey, age 66, passed away unexpectedly on December 3, 2021. Her generous spirit and sense of humor made her special to many, and she will be greatly missed.

Liz is survived by her three children, Jennifer Leary (Jamie) of Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, James Sullenberger of Mechanicsville, Virginia, and Ryan (Katie) Sullenberger of Richmond, Virginia. She was a wonderful grandmother to Sadie, Liam, Nate and Oliver. She is also survived by her siblings, Bunny (Jim) McNamee, Trish Walsh, Nina (Butch) Schneider, Aggie (Richard) Pettyjohn; and sister-in-law, Vicky Carey.

She was preceded in death by both of her parents, Allen and Agnes Carey; her sister, Cathy Bonner and brother-in-law, Thomas Bonner; and her brother, Allen Carey.

Relatives and friends are welcome to attend a Visitation on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 11 am at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, Delaware, 19703, where a Memorial Service will follow at 12 pm.  Burial will be private. Please note: Her children are planning an additional memorial event to take place later this spring in Florida, where Liz lived for many years when her children were young and where many loved ones still live. Details will be shared when finalized.
