Elizabeth “Betty” Wright Middleton, age 102, of Claymont DE passed away peacefully at home June 14, 2023, surrounded by family and friends.  

Born in Wilmington DE on the Bellevue Estate to the late Thomas and Gertrude Wright, she was a graduate of P.S. DuPont High School class of 1937 and earned her secretarial associates degree from Goldey-Beacom College in 1939.

Betty worked as an industrial executive secretary in Wilmington until interrupted by World War II, after which she raised her family in Claymont.  Betty was a fun-loving lady whose house was always full of children and laughter.  She was a long-time member of Church of the Ascension in Claymont where she taught Sunday school for many years.  This funny, feisty, strong woman will be missed by all.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Joseph W. Middleton in 2003.

Survivors include son, Thomas G.(Debby) Middleton of Riverview FL; daughters, Carol A. Middleton and Janet E. Middleton of Claymont, DE, Donna M.(Michael) Stethen of Bedford, KY; grandchildren, Holly M. Middleton, Sarah E. Duncan, Matthew J. Stethen, Andrew J. Stethen, Lisa R. Middleton, Angela G. Purvis; and 9 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday June 21, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Church of the Ascension, 3717 Philadelphia Pike Claymont DE 19703.  Visitation will precede the service at 10:00 am at the church.  The burial will follow in Lawn Croft Cemetery in Linwood PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Church of The Ascension or to Accent Hospice Care, 220 Continental Dr., Suite 407, Newark, DE 19713.
