Emily F. Finney Obituary

Emily F. Finney, age 98, of Wilmington, DE, formerly of Linwood, PA for most of her life, passed away January 18, 2021.

Emily was the daughter of the late Herbert and Anna J. Finney.  She graduated from Eddystone High in 1940.  She was raised in a time with a generation of people who knew hard work, meager times and war.  A generation whose ethic of hard work and frugal living was a necessity and family was your focus. Emily worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad in Philadelphia for over 40 years before retiring in 1983. She was a faithful and active member of the Linwood United Methodist Church for over 50 years.

Emily was a devoted sister and aunt who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved to travel whether she was heading down south or up to the northeast with her favorite trip abroad being Israel.

She spent her retirement years being active with her water exercises, gardening, painting with water colors, attending Elder Week at Delaware Community College each year.  She enjoyed the continuous process of learning and was an avid reader. She remained active with a group of retirees.  Whether she was hosting a holiday meal for family or an outing with her friends, she enjoyed engaging with people and the opportunity to make a memory with those she loved and cared about.  Emily left an impression on the lives of so many and we will miss that unforgettable laugh that was contagious.   Emily will surely be missed for her kind and gentle spirit that resonated throughout her life.

She is survived by her brother, Russell Finney (Lois); nieces, Bev Atz (Tom), Alice Gold (Joe); nephews, Donnie Finney (Debbie), Jim Finney (Ann), David Finney (Karen); eight great nieces and nephews. Tom Atz, Jr, Andrew Atz, Amanda Carucci (Nick), Matt Finney, Ashely Gold, Jake Gold, Morgan Finney and Josh Finney.

Burial will be held privately.   A memorial service is planned for a later time.
