Ernst R. Grieb

Ernst R.Grieb, age 77, of New Castle, DE passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 20, 2020 in Christiana Care Hospital, Wilmington, DE.

Born in Hufstein, Poland, Ernst was the son of the late Gotthilf and Olga (nee Gunsch) Grieb. As WWII refugees, he and his family were displaced to Firstenhagen, Germany. Ernst later immigrated to the United States with his family.  He graduated from Interboro High School and began his career as a meat cutter. Ernst proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. 

He married the late Jeannette Brooks and started his family. They spent 29 happy years together raising three children before her passing. Ernst eventually remarried the late Norma Schroeder and spent many happy years traveling with her. He enjoyed reading, traveling, singing and dancing. 

Ernst took great pride in watching his grandchildren grow up, as well as babysitting whenever he was asked. He was an active member of the Delaware Saengerbund and often volunteered and participated in their many events. 

Ernst is survived by his three children, Jeannette Driscoll, Tricia Grieb-Neff (Kurt) and Andrew Grieb (Carol); his two brothers, Richard and Gerhard Grieb. He is Opa to Jeannie McGuire, Andrew and Alison Grieb and Troy and Elise Neff.

Due to current COVID restrictions, in person services will not be held.
