Obituary

Evelyn Virginia Boulden White

1/8/1922 – 3/12/2022

Evelyn left her earthly life at 100+ years old!  She was the daughter of Alvin T. Boulden and Lillian V. Pyle.  She was born in the city of Wilmington, Delaware, and educated in the Wilmington Public Schools.  Her family moved to Stanton, Delaware when she was fifteen years old and she graduated from Conrad High School in 1940.  She lived in Stanton for most of her life, until moving to Middletown, Delaware, then finally to Newark, Delaware, where she resided at Millcroft Senior Nursing Facility, along with her husband, Claude.

She was employed by the Hurley-Powel Company as an office clerk from 1940 – 1945, then by the Dupont Company, February, 1945 – June, 1946, as an office clerk.  She was then employed by the State of Delaware as a secretary in the Stanton School District for many years starting in 1957 until she retired.

Evelyn was a great cook, baker, and canned many vegetables from a large, bountiful garden planted yearly by Claude.  She loved crafting and did crocheting and embroidery work.  She was very active with the church bazaar ladies of St. James Episcopal Church in Wilmington.

Evelyn is survived by her husband Claude H. White, 98 years old.  They were married for 79 years!  She was preceded in death by her daughter Claudia A. White (2008), and her brother Elmer R. Boulden (1979), a nephew, Frank T. Boulden (2019), and niece Margaret (Rande) Petty (2007).  She is lovingly remembered as dear “Aunt Ebby” by Barbara Boulden and her son James (Jamie) Boulden, M.D., and great-nieces Janae Aglio and Michelle Mordan, along with their children, Maci and Anthony Aglio, Jessica Rhodes, Blaise Mordan and MacKenzie Mordan.  She was very close to her husband’s nephew Keith and wife Mary Frances White of Greenville, North Carolina.

Graveside services were held at Gracelawn Memorial Park on Tuesday, March 22, attended by family and close friends.  Pastor Amy Peters of Atonement United Methodist Church led her beautiful celebration of life service.
