George Alexander III Obituary

George H Alexander III, age 74, of Claymont, DE and formerly of Wilmington, DE, passed away on March 22, 2023 at the long-term care facility in Philadelphia, Fox Subacute.

George graduated Salesianum Catholic School in Wilmington Delaware in 1966. He went on to work at the Bank of Delaware and then as a Volunteer at the Wilmington Police Auxiliary league, where he reached lieutenant, and met his future wife, Nancy Toledo. Nancy initially thought he was a "Grumpy Old Man", He was around 26 at the time. George and Nancy married a year later and have been married for the last 46 years.

George continued his work at Bank of Delaware, which was later bought out by PNC Bank, where he continued to be a "Locksmith and Alarm Tech".  After leaving from PNC Bank, due to downsizing, George went to work for his longtime friend, Sam Brown, at Wilsmere Enterprises and then after Sam's passing, he worked with Barbara Brown, until his retirement. After his official retirement, he continued working 2 days a week, part time, at Allied Locksmithing, until he left to help take care of his wife.

George was active in Boy Scouts, as Troop Leader of Troop 40, for 5 years. Then became a Troop commissioner, for a few years after that. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts, for parking with the LPGA, and enjoyed his time volunteering at Boy Scout Camp Roosevelt in New Jersey. 

His marriage to Nancy happened at St. Joseph's Church in Wilmington, where they had attended for many years, and when the Parrish moved to St Patrick's of Wilmington, they were there for many years as well. George would volunteer at the church during the week, to help with cleaning, and arrangements. 

George is predeceased by his Father George Jr., his Aunt Glenna, whom he was very close with, and considered a sister, and Glennas husband, Bill, his brother Geoffrey, and his sister Celeste.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Alexander (Toledo); his 3 children, Elise, George IV, and Matthew; and grandchildren, Tatiana, Selena, Davey, George V, Jim, Ylisse, Ayricca, Isabella, Matthew Jr. He is also survived by siblings Greg, Ave Marie, Gary, Glenn, Gerry, Bill, Chuck, and Glenna Marie. 

A visitation will be held on Monday, April 3, 2023 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm at Gebhart Funeral Home. Interment will be in Silverbrook Cemetery in Wilmington, DE.
