Joan Delawski, 86, of Wilmington, DE passed away on Friday, November 25, 2022. Joan was born on Long Island, NY in 1936 to Felix Rayhoe and Sophie (Huminski) Rayhoe. She graduated from Elkton High School in MD, and completed nursing training at the Delaware Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as an RN at Sacred Heart Hospital in Chester, PA where she met her husband of 51 years, Tadeusz (Ted) Delawski. While raising their children she continued her nursing career at Longwood Villa nursing home in Boothwyn, PA. In retirement, she volunteered as an ombudsman, advocating on behalf of local nursing home residents, and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Joan and Ted frequented Polish and German dances and festivals in Delaware and Southeastern PA. Joan was a member of the Holy Rosary Parish in Claymont, DE, volunteering at the yearly carnival as well as with the Lazarus Association that supported grieving families of the parish. Joan was a kind and thoughtful person and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Joan is predeceased by her husband, Ted Delawski, and survived by her children, Ed Delawski (Brighid), Diane Ginn, Lorraine Lampert (Steve), and Irene Heller (Paul) as well as her grandchildren, Ryan, David, Matthew, Mackenzie, Juliane, and Lauren.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022 from 1:00-2:00 pm at Holy Rosary Church, 3200 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 2:00 pm at Holy Rosary Church. Joan will be laid to rest with her husband privately at Our Lady of Czestochowa in Doylestown, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware.
