Joseph A. Funaro

Joseph A. Funaro, age 74, of Claymont, DE passed away on June 17, 2022 after a prolonged illness.

Joe was born on July 20, 1947 and raised in Wilmington, DE with his two brothers and two sisters.  He graduated from Wilmington High in 1965 and soon after enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  He served in Vietnam with the 2nd Armored Division (Hell on Wheels), and the 1st Cavalry Division.  He attained the rank of Sgt. (E5) and spent part of his tour as a field radio operator.  After an honorable discharge in 1968 he worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier for over 30 years until his retirement.  Always the jokester, he was fondly known by his coworkers as “Funzie.”

Joe is survived by his sister, Ann Marie (Funaro) Rollo of Claymont, DE; his sister-in-law, Celeste Funaro; his nephews, Vincent Rollo (Jennifer), Michael Rollo (Theresa), his nieces, Christine (Funaro) Caldwell (Charles), Frances Ann Funaro-Marshall,  Bonnie Dudley (Brandon), as well as many great niece and nephews, and great-great nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Theresa Funaro; his brothers, Mark Funaro, Frank Funaro; his sister-in-law, Ernestina Funaro; his brother-in-law, Joseph Rollo, Jr.; and his twin sister, Carmelita Menton.

Services were held in private with burial in Cathedral Cemetery in Wilmington, DE on June 27, 2022.
