Julia A. "Judy" Smith, age 76, of Wilmington, DE passed away June 9, 2023 at home.

Judy worked at Widener University, Wilmington, DE and transferred to Widener University Chester PA Campus for 49 years as head of security, retiring in 2018.  She loved dogs and always had a place in her home for them.

Judy is survived by her sister, Margaret Thompson and her husband, Ralph Thompson; brother, Jim Smith and his wife, Eva Smith; several nieces and nephews; and her companion, Charlie Wisniewski.  She was preceded in death by her parents, John F. "Jack" Smith, Jr. and Mildred E. Smith; brothers, Thomas “Smitty” Smith and John Smith III.

A viewing will be held Thursday, June 22, 2023 from 11am to 12 pm at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703, where a funeral service will begin at 12 pm.  Entombment will follow in Lawn Croft Cemetery, Linwood, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Judy’s name to Faithful Friends Animal Society, 12 Germay Drive, Wilmington, DE 19804.
