Karen Lea Faust, of Wilmington, Delaware died at her home on December 13, 2022, after a courageous six-year battle with Multiple Myeloma.
Karen was a 1980 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. She attended Widener College, where she earned an Associate Degree.
Karen worked as a CADD Draftsperson for several years before becoming a bartender fifteen years ago. She tended bar at several clubs in the Wilmington and Newark areas, with her last several years spent at the Claymont Moose Lodge. Bartending was Karen’s calling. When she tended bar, she not only served great drinks, but she entertained you “free of charge.” Karen was the first woman to serve on the board at the Lodge, as well as holding many positions with the Women of the Moose.
Karen is survived by her sister, Helen Kunder (Bill) of Little Egg Harbor Township New Jersey, her sister Betty Foraker (Bob) of Townsend, DE, and her brother Carl Faust (Ann) of Haddam, CT and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Carl and Betty Faust and niece Melissa Foraker. She leaves behind many close friends, with special thanks to Kathy Brady and her husband Wayne for the countless hours Kathy spent accompanying Karen to years of treatments and helping her navigate through the often overwhelming process, and to Rita Anderson, for her support, kindness, and friendship throughout Karen’s tenure at the Moose Lodge.
Karen had an enduring sense of humor and infectious laugh. She was kindhearted and giving, which was demonstrated often through her volunteer work and organizing many successful fundraisers. Karen loved the beach and got certified as a scuba diver. Karen loved animals and some may remember her terrier, Daisy, who delighted her for years. Just this past November, she visited the boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach and enjoyed a Nicaboli lunch with her sisters.
A Celebration of Karen’s Life will be held at the Claymont Moose Lodge, 5101 Governor Printz Boulevard, Wilmington, DE, on Saturday, January 7 at 11:00 am for all her friends and family.
If inclined, contributions can be made in Karen’s memory to the Claymont Moose Club, 5101 Governor Printz Boulevard, Wilmington, DE 19809 or the Brandywine Valley SPCA, 290 Churchmans Road, New Castle, DE 19720 or the charity of your choice.
