Katherine Roseanne Crowe MacCord Obituary
Suddenly and unexpectedly, Katherine C. MacCord, aged 69, was collected by Heaven’s angels, to claim her Heavenly mansion, on April 23rd, 2026 at 12:52 pm. God welcomed her into His loving arms and said “Welcome home, my precious child, your Heavenly home awaits you” and Jesus smiled and whispered “No more pain or suffering”. The daughter of Frances (Johnson) Green and Donald Crowe, she grew up in Pitman, New Jersey. She graduated from Ambassador Christian Academy, where she met her eventual husband, David M. MacCord.
As a life-long lover of education and learning, she worked hard to excel in school. She graduated a year early from high school, as one of the school’s valedictorians. She went on to United Wesleyan College and then finished and received her degree from Asbury University.
She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education and went on to work at various Christian and public schools in Florida, New Jersey, and Delaware.
She and David married on June 20th, 1981 and settled in North Wilmington, in their dream home in Windybush development (thank you ATCAT!) with their three children, Adam, Melissa, and Andrew. We can’t forget to mention Ripley, aka the Rippers!
Kathy spent decades teaching in private and public schools, as mostly a Special Education teacher. She touched countless lives with her hands-on and loving approach to teaching. She later pursued her Master’s Degree in Special Education from Wilmington College and later joined a small and prestigious group of teachers who were Nationally Board Certified in grades K-6, in Special Education.
Kathy was a fierce advocate for her children and loved her grandkids more than life itself. She endured a lot of health issues the past several years but she loved hearing from her friends and family, particularly as she became more home-bound and was unable to do much traveling. It comforted her to know that so many people sent well wishes and reached out to her.
She was a strong woman who loved hard and passionately. She was extremely generous and kind. Her teaching extended far past the classroom and she could always be counted on for great advice, a strong listening ear, and a hug that conveyed all of her love. She worked hard to ensure everyone around her felt her warmth, welcomed, and loved. She made sure every birthday and holiday was special and it was her goal that everyone in the family knew how special they were on those days. Her accomplishments were vast but her greatest accomplishment was how fiercely she loved her family and her continual faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She was a beloved wife, mom, daughter, nana, aunt, sister, teacher, friend, and woman.
She is survived by David MacCord of Millsboro, DE, her faithful and devoted husband of 44 years; her children Adam MacCord of New Castle, DE, Melissa Beaty (Michael) of Wilmington, DE, and Andrew MacCord of New Castle, DE. Her favorite title was by far “Nana”and she is survived by her 4 grandchildren, Abel, Adalina, their mother April Brooks, Dante, and Myles, as well as her 2 grand-dogs, Riley and Vixen.
She is also survived by her mother Frances Green of Sewell, New Jersey and father Donald Crowe (Alice) of San Angelo, Texas, her brothers Don Crowe (Anna) of Ewan, New Jersey, Doug Crowe (Georgine) of Pitman, New Jersey, David Crowe (Jennifer) of Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, and Dennis Green (Heather) of Burlington, New Jersey. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews as well as many cousins.
A viewing will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026 from 10:00-11:00 am at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will be at 1:30 pm at Eglington Cemetery and Memorial Gardens, 320 Kings Highway, Clarksboro, NJ 08020.
Kathy took a special interest in working with and loving people with disabilities. We ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Forward Journey Adult Day Services. The address is 52 Reads Way New Castle, DE 19720 or visit forwardjourney.org.
