Kenneth Miller Graves, Jr. Obituary

Kenneth Miller Graves, Jr., age 76, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2022, from complications related to a long battle with cancer.

Ken was a 1964 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School in Wilmington, Delaware and a 1968 graduate of Tarkio College in Tarkio, Missouri. In high school, Ken worked for the Brandywine Food Shop, the Dupont Country Club as a groundskeeper and the Dupont Company as a mail clerk. He served honorably in the Delaware Army National Guard from 1970-1976. Ken continued his career working for Moore Business Forms, Frito-Lay, Eagle Snacks, Utz Snacks, Eagle Limousine and his most recent employer, SAS Retail Services.

Ken lived his life to the fullest! He was always the brightest smile in the room and his laughter and humor were infectious. He was a true sports fan with a deep devotion to the Philadelphia Eagles. From early on, Ken was an animal lover with a fondness for the feline species. He delighted in caring for feral barn cats in need, providing them with food and shelter. He also took an active volunteer role at Romelia Farms Wildlife Preserve, a non-profit organization supporting animals in need in Merritt Island, FL.

Ken was obsessed with food, a genuine foodie! He often had his meals planned out weeks in advance. His favorites included subs, pizza, and cheesesteaks from his local Delaware and Pennsylvania favorites. He loved the beach and all things sun and sand. His favorite places to visit were the Delaware beaches, the Jersey Shore, Florida, and St. Kitts.

Ken was the peacekeeper among his family and friends. He had a remarkable way of bringing everyone together. His golden years were spent enjoying every moment with his grandchildren, whether it be throwing the football, playing wiffle ball, wrestling, or coming up with new, exciting and semi-dangerous activities. If you knew Ken, you would never forget him. He was truly the life of the party and often referred to as the “social director.” He left a joyous mark amongst those that were fortunate enough to have crossed his path.

Ken is predeceased by his mother, Frances Beatie and his father Kenneth Graves Sr., both of Wilmington, Delaware. He is survived by his wife, Carol Henritzy of Bally, Pennsylvania; his brother Richard Graves of Wilmington, Delaware, his daughter Stacey Creasey (Brett) of Hockessin, Delaware; his son Jeremy Graves (Lina) of Viera, Florida; and eight grandchildren.

Per Ken’s wishes, his ashes will be scattered at Cockleshell Bay Beach in front of Lion Rock Beach Bar & Grill in the Caribbean Island of St. Kitts. Join us in remembering the life of Ken Graves on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, Delaware.
