Obituary
Margaret Ruth Sims Cunningham, age 88 of Glen Mills, PA passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023.
Born in Newport News, VA to Grace F. and Alfred E. Sims, she was a "Pioneer" resident of Maris Grove Senior Living Community for 16 years; living previously in Wilmington, DE for 42 years.
Margaret earned a BS in Music Education from Juniata College and initially taught elementary music. Later on, she was Executive Assistant to the Dean at Delaware Law School (Widener), retiring in 1994. She loved visiting with friends and family, working on puzzles, being in gardens, and entertaining. She started and directed the Chorus at Maris Grove for 10 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Harold (Lois) Sims, Ralph (Donna) Sims and Earl (Willa) Sims, her husband Robert C. Cunningham, and former spouse Charles S. Heckert. Her spirit and sense of humor will continue through her children, Linda Heckert and Carl Heckert, step-children Kathleen Dooner and Michael Cunningham, and step-grandchildren Colin Dooner and Graham Dooner.
Burial will be private. Her family thanks the staffs of Maris Grove Rose Court and Willow Tree Hospice for their dedication and kindness in caring for Margaret. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Margaret's honor to the Maris Grove Resident Care Fund, 200 Maris Grove Way, Glen Mills, PA 19342.
