Mary Ann Harkins Obituary

Mary Ann Harkins passed away on December 16, 2021 at her home in Claymont, DE at age 86. The youngest of four children, she was born and raised in Chester, PA, where she graduated from Chester High School in 1953. In 1963, she married Francis Harkins and settled in Claymont to raise their two children. Over the years, she worked for Harper Packing Company, PNC Bank, Community Pharmacy in Wilmington, and Pharmerica Pharmacy.

Mary Ann had a beautiful smile and loved to laugh. She was bubbly and sociable and made a friend of everyone she met. She was devoted to raising her children and there was rarely a school field trip that she didn’t sign up to chaperone. Mary Ann was happiest at home and enjoyed watching classic movies, sitcoms, and her soaps, as well as the music of her generation, only recently attending a concert by Frankie Avalon, Fabian, and Bobby Rydell. She was an excellent cook and baker, and entertained family and friends over the years for cookouts and holidays. No birthday cake or pumpkin roll will ever taste as good as hers did. Her homemade bread will be missed by all who knew her. Her greatest love was her family, especially the many babies and children whom she adored and helped care for, most notably her own grandsons.

Mary Ann is predeceased by her parents Anthony and Mary Kukulich, her husband Francis Xavier Harkins, her brothers Anthony Kukulich Jr. and Joseph Kukulich, and her sister Teresa Kukulich. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen, who lived with her and cared for her, her son and daughter-in-law, David and Donna, and her two grandsons, Colin and Denny. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Ellen Marie Kukulich of Claymont, DE, Stella Kukulich of Wilmington, DE, and Margaret Defosse of Aston, PA, as well as her lifelong friend Dolores Gockel who introduced her to her husband, and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may attend her viewing at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 23rd at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4701 Weldin Rd, Wilmington, DE 19803, where a mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Lawn Croft Cemetery in Linwood, PA.
