Mary Jane Welsh, age 74, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at home surrounded by family.
She was born in West Philadelphia to the late Julia Anne and John Louis Duffy, Sr. She met her husband at the age of 13 while roller skating at Elmwood and were together ever since. Mary Jane graduated from Prendergast High School in 1964 and earned her bachelor's degree from Goldey-Beacom College. She was employed by the Diocese of Wilmington for many years and later worked for Goldey-Beacom College until her retirement.
Mary Jane is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Thomas William Welsh and her children, Anne Undorf (Anthony), Thomas Welsh (Allison), Nicolette Welsh (John), Tyler Welsh (Taylor); her grandchildren, Alexander, Andrew, Penelope, Jack, Beau and Baby Welsh; her brother, John Louis Duffy, Jr. (Anne); and her sister-in-law, Helen Welsh (Don).
She was a kind, loving, loyal and gentle soul who was always willing to help those in need and who made friends wherever she went. Mother to all she was around whether they were hers or not. She was active in her church serving as a Eucharistic minister for years. She loved line dancing with her friends, Elvis who she saw at the Arena, reading, daily puzzles, and most of all enjoying time with her family and grandchildren.
A viewing will be held at the Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703, on Friday morning May 14, 2021 from 9:30am until 10:45am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday morning May 14, 2021 at St. Helena Catholic Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809 at 11:30am. All attending will be required to wear a face mask and practice social distancing to maintain compliance with State COVID-19 Regulations. Admittance will be regulated. Interment will follow in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, 1600 S. Sproul Road, Springfield, PA 19064.
