Matt is survived by his mother, Diane, his brothers, Justus Christian III “Chris” and Michael “Mike” Yerger, his sister-in-law, Melody, and his niece and nephew, Jordyn and Jason.
Matthew was raised in New Castle, Delaware, where he attended St. Peter’s School and graduated from Salesianum High School in 1989. Matt then moved to Terra Ceia, Florida with his parents Bud and Diane, where he resided until his untimely death in January.
Matthew began his studies at Manatee Community College in the fall of 1989, before continuing onto Sarasota Vocational and Technical Institute. Upon completing his studies in 1993, Matt received his certificate of competency in thermal engineering.
Matthew later used his training in heating and air conditioning to start his own business, M.Y. Mechanical in 2006. The majority of his advertising was by word of mouth. Customers and clients hailed Matt for his kindness, honesty and generosity, with many of his clients considering him to be family.
During his life, Matthew had a passion for cooking, especially Polish pierogi, which he learned how to make from his mother, Diane. Matt also enjoyed recreational water activities including scuba diving and jet skiing. Furthermore, Matt was an avid collector of a myriad of things, including NASCAR memorabilia and Hot Wheels cars, and most passionately, his Hooters collectables - most notably, his Hooters football which he would take to restaurants across the states to have Hooters girls sign for him.
Matthew was known for his sense of humor and loving, kind-hearted nature, always going out of his way to help people whenever he could. Matt had a great spirit, he was loved tremendously by his family, and is missed deeply by his loved ones.
