Mildred Irene "Millie" Dyson Obituary

Mildred Irene “Millie” Dyson, age 90, of Wilmington, DE, went into the arms of Jesus on Monday, September 8, 2025. She was an adored wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She brought light and love to her family and was deeply cherished.

In earlier years, Millie held various jobs, including working at the Yarn Mill in Darby, PA, as a teenager. Later, she worked in food service at Tri-County Hospital, Springfield, PA, as a cashier in the Grant's Store restaurant in Brookhaven, PA and as a school bus driver for Nether Providence School District in Wallingford, PA, until she retired in 1975.

Millie enjoyed spending time with her family above all else. She was a giver, compassionate, kind, funny and loving. She loved animals, especially cats, dogs, elephants, giraffes, birds, and even the squirrels. She was an active senior who loved shopping, playing bingo and going to the Jersey Shore. If you didn't know where to find her, you would just have to go to Boscovs or Kohls to find her. She loved playing bingo weekly so much that everyone knew that instead of calling B7, the caller would just shout, "Millie!" (because 7 was her favorite number.)

She made many new friends in the last years of her life, at the Seller’s Senior Center in Wilmington, DE and at Cliff House in Wilmington, DE, where she moved in 2017. She was a member of Atonement Methodist Church for 50 years. Her favorite verse was John 13:34: " Love one another."

Millie was predeceased by her husband, Harry Dyson, mother, Mary Hart Peters, mother-in-law, Mildred Hart Guerrero, father-in-law, Walter Guerrero, sister, Mary Jetter Derr, brother, William Jetter, and stepsons, Alan Dyson and Arnold Dyson.

She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Renée Clifton Bennett (Curt) of Wilmington, DE and stepson, Art (Beth) Dyson of Watertown, NY; 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at 11:30am at Atonement Methodist Church, 3519 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 10am to 11:30am. Burial will be private.
