Mirjana “Mila” Fatovic, 94, passed away peacefully in the company of family and friends at her home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on March 11th, 2026.
Mirjana was born on the island of Ugljan, Croatia to the late Bepa (Simic) and Marcelo Saraga on November 14,1931 and married Milko Fatovic from the nearby island of Sestrunj, Croatia on June 2, 1952.
In 1962, Mirjana left post-war socialist Yugoslavia with her two young sons, Goran and Bozo, to meet her husband Milko in France who had left earlier to find work and a home for the family. Mirjana lovingly and tirelessly supported Milko and her sons when they immigrated to the United States in 1964, eventually becoming long-time residents of Claymont, Delaware where many of Mirjana’s family had previously settled. Mirjana and Milko moved to Sebastian, Florida in 1999 where they enjoyed an active life in retirement with many friends, family, and visitors.
Mirjana was a smart and strong woman who impacted others with her kind deeds, culinary talent and calm presence. Mirjana was a talented craft maker who prolifically sewed, knitted, and crotched many beautiful blankets, doilies and clothing, often as gifts to her family and friends. Mirjana loved children and displayed photos and scrapbooks of her family, nieces and nephews in her home.
Mirjana is survived by her son Goran Fatovic and daughter-in law Delores Fatovic, sisters-in-law Arlene Fatovic and Peggy Fatovic, nieces Anita Svorinic and Diana Jerolimov and her husband Josip Jerolimov, Michelle O'Keefe and her husband Sean O’Keefe and daughter Matija O’Keefe, nephews Robert Fatovic and wife Leeanna Fatovic, Kenneth Fatovic and wife Mary Fatovic, Filp Jerolimov, Sebastian Jerolimov, Robert "Robbie" Fatovic, Luke Fatovic, Gavin O'Keefe and cousins Debbie Saraga and Vicki Sandage and her loving caretaker Maria Malcom.
Mirjana was predeceased by her husband Milko Fatovic, son Bozo Nikola Fatovic, brother Emil Saraga and his wife Vilma Saraga and brother Zeljko Saraga and his wife Renee, sister-in-law Milenka Fatovic and her husband Alberto Svorinic, and brothers-in-law Robert “Bob” Fatovic and Steve Fatovic.
A viewing will be held at the Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703, on Thursday, March 26, 2026, from 9:00am until 10:00am, where a funeral service will begin at 10:00am. Burial will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Ave., Wilmington, DE 19805.
