Myrna S. Kirk, age 86, passed away on October 21, 2025, in Wilmington, Delaware.
Myrna was her families' Sunflower from the Sunflower State…Kansas. She was born into modest means on a small farm in Kansas. In that house was a single wood burning stove to heat the entire house. There was no indoor plumbing, but her mother was a fantastic cook on that wood burning stove in the cramped kitchen. Myrna and her sister Marietta did well in the tiny grade school, got the best grades and were outstanding players on the girl’s grade school basketball team.
Myrna met her husband, Allen, through her sister Marietta (also a red head) at Emporia State Teachers College in Emporia, Kansas. By the time they both graduated they were married. Allen studied chemistry, and Myrna studied business and economics. Myrna’s plan for their future: “Allen, you work hard, get a job and earn money and I will take care of balancing the books!” She did that their entire married life of 65 years. Myrna put her education to good use by doing accounting for several organizations, including the Delaware Academy of Medicine for many years.
Myrna loved her life raising three sons, raising flowers, enjoying card games, dominoes, tennis with friends, and traveling. She especially treasured her life at St. Mark's Lutheran church: singing in the choir, participating in ladies’ events, the Christmas bazaar, and designing and working in the new memorial garden.
We suspect that God in heaven is enjoying talking with Myrna, gathering ideas on how to improve His celestial flower gardens!
Myrna and Allen raised three rowdy boys who most of the time behaved themselves and made their parents proud of them.
All of us Kirks have truly led blessed lives.
Services for Myrna will be private.
Thanks be to God!
