Oakley Carl Eskridge, Jr. Obituary

Oakley Carl Eskridge, Jr, known as Carl, aged 89.975, of Mohnton, Pennsylvania, passed away December 21, 2021, at Reading Hospital in Reading, PA.  The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the entire Reading Hospital care team for their care of Carl and compassion for the family during Carl’s final week.

Carl was born in New Castle, DE on December 30, 1931. He attended LSU prior to entering the Air Force.  Carl served in the Air Force during the Korean War era. He was stationed in England and Morocco. After his military service, he returned to earn his bachelor’s degree in 1959 from the University of Delaware. He earned his Master of Social Work degree from Temple University in 1971.  He was a social worker for the state of Pennsylvania until he retired.

Carl was preceded in death by his father Oakley Carl Eskridge, Sr, his mother, Vivian Moyle Eskridge, his first wife, Catherine Dorris Eskridge, his second wife, Marjorie Casey Eskridge, his brother-in-law, Marvin Fisher, his son, Ronald Lynch and his granddaughter, Andrea Bubacz.

Carl is survived by his sister, Sylvia Eskridge Fisher; his children, Curt (Dawn) Eskridge, Brian Eskridge, (Dianna) Lynch, Gerry Lynch, Robert (Linda) Gallaher, Cathy (Daniel) Galyen, Victor (Maureen) Casey, Kevin (Carole) Casey, Laura Bubacz, and Brian Casey; by his grandchildren, Claire Eskridge, Theresa (Greg) Barker, Eric Lynch, Charlie (Stacie) Lynch, Joey (Caitlin) Gallaher, Scott (Meghan) Galyen,  Kate (Steve) Goodwin, Liz Casey (Bob Alberts); his great-grandchildren Sam Barker, Jacob Barker, Zeke Lynch, Kara Lynch, Maddie Lynch, Layla Galyen, Lacey Galyen, Alex Galyen, Brianna Gallaher, Gemma Gallaher, Lorelai Gallaher, Chloe Alberts, Aubrey Alberts and Evelyn Goodwin; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Carl liked hunting for a bargain, big band music, playing with his cat and working on the family tree. Carl will be remembered for his smile.

Services will be held at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, Delaware, 19703 on Friday, January 14, 2021. Visitation 11am and service at 12pm. Interment will be at 2pm in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, Delaware.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Brain Foundation.
