Richard Duque, age 96, of Claymont, DE passed away on November 2, 2019 at Wilmington Hospital, surrounded by family.
Richard was born in 1923 in the country of Ecuador and as a teenager joined the Merchant Marines. He became a US citizen in 1954. After 20 years of service, Richard retired from the Merchant Marines and became a steelworker for Phoenix Steel in Claymont, DE until his retirement in 1984.
Richard loved to play the lottery and work on remodeling projects around his house. He enjoyed woodworking and proudly displayed his handiwork throughout his home.
He is predeceased by his wife, Delores June and his grandchildren, Norman Williams, Richard Balliet and Jena Balliet.
Richard is survived by his daughters, Katherine (Ray) Neiswanger, Judith (Ralph) Williams, Norma Saville and Alberta (Mark) Balliet, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Richard was cared for in his later years, until his death, by his grandson, Ronald Stanley, Jr., as well as his great granddaughter, Becca Stanley and her fiancé, Dan Crowley.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Wilmington Hospital for their grace, empathy and extraordinary care in making sure Pop was comfortable.
