Robert J. "Chuck" Riley Obituary

Robert J. “Chuck” Riley, age 78, passed away on December 5, 2022, from complications of a longtime illness.

Chuck was born to the late Edward James and Dorothy Riley on January 13, 1944 and spent his childhood in Wilmington, DE and on a farm in Bear, DE.

Chuck was so determined to serve his country that he left school early and enlisted in the Navy at 17 years old. After boot camp he was immediately deployed to Vietnam where he served four tours and 9 campaigns from 1962 to 1971. He served his country honorably, without hesitation, and took immense pride in being a SeaBee. After 24 years serving admirably in the Navy, he retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1986.

Chuck was predeceased by his loving wife of 42 years, Karen, and his parents. He is survived by his siblings, Jim (Becky) Riley of Hurlock, MD, Bill (Renee) Riley of Palm Bay, FL, Robin (Mick) Feil of Wilmington, DE; his daughters, Christine (Bob) White of San Bernardino, CA, and Karey Riley-Locke of Claymont, DE; grandchildren, Bobby, Patrick, Madison, Haley, and Alyssa; and great-grandchildren, Ashton, Aria, Allan, De’Mari, Dylan, and Jameson.

He was a devoted Christian and sought to serve and honor God. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”   John 3:16

A Committal Service will be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701 on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at 2:00pm, followed by military honors.  After the cemetery services the family will be having a celebration of life at the Hall-Burke VFW Post 5447, 1605 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809.
