Obituary

Ronald Eugene Eshleman, 83, of Claymont, Delaware went home to be with the Lord on May 13, 2023 at Wilmington Hospital surrounded by loving family. 

Born October 1,1939 in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late Elam H. and Helen (Kauffman) Eshleman.

Ron was an active member of Iron Faith Fellowship, serving in many areas. In addition to his service in church, he loved teaching, always reminding his students that what made a difference was their attitude. He was an avid fisherman. One of his favorite pastimes was watching the Philadelphia Eagles and the Atlanta Braves. His love for his family was unmatched.

Ron graduated from Pequea Valley High School in Kinzers, PA in 1957, Millersville College in 1961, and The Pennsylvania State University in 1966 with his Master of Science plus 45, in Education.  He was placed in the Athletic Hall of Fame for baseball in 2007 at Pequea Valley High School.  He taught high school chemistry at Hightstown High School (1961-1970), advanced placement chemistry and department head at Claymont High School (1970-1990), and Brandywine High School (1990-2004).  Ron was the Advisor for the National Honor Society at Claymont.  He was awarded the United States Presidential Scholars Program Teacher Recognition Award in 2000 by the President of the United States and the U.S. Department of Education.  He was awarded the High School Chemistry Teacher of the Year in 1987 by the American Chemical Society.  He was named multiple years as most favorite teacher and received multiple accolades over his 43 years of teaching.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Jo Ann (Berry) of Claymont, his children Ronald (Elaine) Eshleman Jr, Sharlene (Jason) CanneLongo, grandchildren Leigh-Ann Eshleman, Thomas Eshleman, Tyler CanneLongo, and Reese CanneLongo, great grandchildren Shepherd Eshleman and Adrian Prakash, and brother Kenneth (Susan) P. Eshleman and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by his sisters Marcia Scott and Jaqueline Miller, and brother Alan Eshleman.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 11:30AM at Iron Faith Fellowship, 801 Darley Road, Wilmington, DE 19810.  Friends and students may call on Saturday, May 20, 2023 from 10:30AM to 11:30AM, with service to follow. 

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and care technicians of Wilmington Hospital for their care and compassion during Ron’s brief illness.
