Susan Ann Diehl

Susan Ann Diehl (nee Costello) of Claymont, Delaware passed away surrounded by family and friends on her 65th birthday, Monday, January 13, 2020. Susan died at Wilmington Hospital due to complications of the flu.

Susan attended Claymont High School where she was a straight A student and Captain of her Majorette Team. She graduated with a 3.94 GPA and High Honors in 1973. She received an Associates Degree in Industrial Engineering in 1979 with a 3.96 GPA from Delaware Technical College in Newark, Delaware. She worked as a Logistics Specialist for DuPont and Day and Zimmerman and a Quality Systems Manager for Citrosuco. She ended her career as a Customer Service Representative and Shipping Specialist for Southern Wine and Spirits of America before retiring in 2016. Susan was previously married to Lawrence Brodoway of Claymont, Delaware, Donald Bunnell of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania and David Diehl of Wilmington, Delaware.

Susan is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Costello and Doris Costello (nee Northrop) of Claymont, Delaware and her brother, Robert Michael “Mike” Costello of Mesa, Arizona. She is survived by her sister, Dorri Costello of Wilmington, Delaware; her best friend, Anthony Pellicone of Wilmington, Delaware; her only child, Sarah (Jonathan) Biermann of Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania; and her three grandchildren, Anna Biermann, Quinn Biermann and Jude Biermann. She also leaves behind many cousins, countless friends and her loving dog, Zoey.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 24, 2020 from 11am to 12pm at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703, where a Memorial Service will begin at 12pm. The service is open to all family and friends. Burial will be held privately.
