Sylvia Jean Patterson

Sylvia Jean (Leasure) Patterson, age 70, of New Castle, DE passed away peacefully at Christiana Hospital on April 16, 2021, surrounded by her husband and two children.

Sylvia was born in 1951 in Wilmington, DE to the late Earl and Laura Leasure of Glasgow, DE. She was a 1969 graduate of Christiana High School in Newark, DE.

Sylvia and George met at the Goodwill Fire Company in New Castle, where they were both members. The two were married in 1976 at Immanuel Episcopal Church on the Green and lived in New Castle throughout their life together. Sylvia was a registered EEG Technician for more than 35 years and worked at various medical systems and practices in New Castle County.

Upon retirement, Sylvia found absolute joy in being a loving grandmother and traveling with George. Their travels included Alaska, France, Mexico, London and most of the United States, many times for Philadelphia Eagles game road trips! She also loved lighthouses, baking for friends and family, gardening and summers in Sussex County.

She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 45 years, George, their children, Shaun Patterson (Laura) and Brook Rowe (Matthew). Her grandchildren, Margot, Matthew and Quinn were the light of her life. Sylvia was the youngest of six children and is survived by three sisters, Helen Keeley (Howard, deceased), Sandy Hufnal (Bruce) and Ruth Eastburn; many nieces, nephews, in-laws and cousins who will miss her at family picnics and reunions. She was predeceased by her brother, Earl "Sonny" Leasure (Phrilla) and sister, Kathryn Phillips (Stan).

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and techs at Christiana Care Hospital, Seasons Hospice and Fresenius Dialysis Center for their wonderful and attentive care. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Goodwill Fire Company as it is where Sylvia and George began their lives together (401 South Street, New Castle, DE 19720).

Visitation will be held from 10am to 11am on Friday, April 23, 2021 at Gebhart Funeral Home, 531 Delaware Street, New Castle, DE 19720, where a Memorial Service will begin at 11am.  All attending will be required to wear a face mask and practice social distancing to maintain compliance with State COVID-19 Regulations.  Admittance will be regulated. Burial will be private.
