Walter E. Trabbold, Jr., age 104, of Wilmington, DE passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, surrounded by his family.
He graduated from P.S. DuPont High School and Stonier Graduate School of Banking. He was an instructor at Perdue University and guest speaker at ATT and IBM executive schools.
Walt was predeceased by his beloved wife, Peggy Trabbold in 2023. He was a loving dad to Robin Colantuono (Carl) and Joyce Bunting (Ken). He was Poppop extraordinaire (aka “Popper”) to Jennifer Colantuono, Heather Colantuono, Jessica Bunting (Patrick Manili), Stephanie Bunting Steyer (Jeff), Michael Bunting (Candice); and great grandfather to Sienna (Colantuono) Phillips, Evelyn (Bunting) Steyer and Myla Bunting.
Mr. Trabbold was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Asian Pacific region. Walt retired from the Bank of Delaware as a Vice President in 1981 after 41 years in the banking industry. Born in Wilmington, DE, he was a pioneer in bank automation, information systems and cash management. His papers are published and archived at Hagley Museum. He was inducted into the Bank Automation Association in 1986 and listed in Who’s Who in the USA and the world from 1968-1991. After his banking career, Walter became president of Del Data Computers and publisher at the Delaware Business Review. In 1986, he co-founded Community Newspapers in Hockessin.
Outside of his business endeavors, Walt was a member of Concord Country Club for 47 years, and served in several positions as a lifelong member of Holly Oak United Methodist Church. He was an avid golfer, played semi-pro baseball, volleyball and was part owner of the Wilmington Blue Bombers minor league basketball team.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703. Visitation for friends and family will be 10:30 am - 11:30 am followed by a brief service. Burial will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Hwy., New Castle, DE 19720.
