Walter A. Gaynor “Walt”, age 88, died on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at his residence in Claymont, Delaware.
Walt was born in Chester, PA, the son of the late Walter H. and Alma Thomas Gaynor Whittaker. He was a graduate of Chichester High School, class of 51. After high school, Walt joined the Merchant Marines and sailed for the Sun Oil Company, he then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving 3 years during the Korean War. Upon finishing his enlistment with the Marine Corps, Walt enrolled at Temple University, School of Electronics. Walt then worked for Litton Industries (which became Monroe Systems for Business) as a Computer Technician, retiring after 43 years. Walt also worked part time at Brandywine Raceway and in retirement drove for City Wide Limousine. He was a dedicated member of United Methodist Church of the Atonement, serving as a trustee and usher. He enjoyed his time as a member of the VFW Post 2907.
Walt loved spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia Blades Gaynor; sons, David A. Gaynor, John D. Gaynor and his wife, Debbie Gaynor; his sister, Sharon Lee Reeder; 2 nieces, 3 nephews and the extended family of his daughter-in-law, Debbie.
A Visitation will be held at the Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703 on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 from 11:00am until 12:00pm, where a Memorial service will begin at 12:00pm. Burial will be private at a later date in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
