Walter F. McClain, Jr.

Walter F. McClain, Jr., age 76, of Claymont, DE passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 in Vero Beach, Florida.

Born in Wilmington, DE, Butch was the son of Walter and Elizabeth (Hatcherson) McClain. He served his country in the National Guard from 1965 until 1971. He was employed by the A&P Tea Co./Superfresh for 55 years, retiring in 2015.  Butch spent decades drag racing with Ken and Helen Winward, his family and friends of Winward Racing.

He is survived by his wife, Diane; his daughters, Kellie Morris and Keri Shively (Mason); his son, Gary Martin; his granddaughters, Brittany Joswick (Brandon), Linda Haley and Colleen Morris;  his great granddaughter, Harper Joswick; his sisters, Helen Winward and Susan Halverson.

In addition to his parents, Butch was predeceased by Linda McClain, Barbara Mitchell, Walter McClain III, and Billy Martin.

A Viewing will be held at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703 on Monday, December 30, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., where a Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Lawn Croft Cemetery, Linwood, PA.
