Willard F. Buckman, age 72, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on Monday, March 7, 2022.  Will was born on October 4, 1949, and resided in the Wilmington area all his life. He was predeceased by his father, Edgar C. Buckman Sr., and his mother, Blanche Bowen Buckman, and also by his eldest brother, Edgar C. Buckman, Jr.

He is survived by his brothers Robert Buckman and Robert’s significant other, Sue Donovan, and John Buckman, and John’s wife Sue, with whom he resided.  He is also survived by his daughter, Jennifer Jeannette, and his nephews Jamie, John and Zachary Buckman.

After graduating Brown Tech he was then drafted into the Army. He served as a Medic from 1967-1970.

Will followed in the legacy of his father and older brother by working at the DuPont Company Experimental Station for many years.  He worked in Central Research & Development as a Lab Technician and was loved by many.  He loved all things sports, ranging from baseball, bowling, fishing to football.  His favorite Football team was the Oakland Raiders.  He participated in many teams at the Experimental Station, including his favorite softball team and was also a competitive bowler for the Erasers. Will also enjoyed horse racing and was a frequent visitor at Delaware Park.  His extraordinary kindness did not stop with people-he also loved cats;  he cherished his beloved Socks.  Will had a deep love for all things Christmas.  He took pride in decorating his home and visiting other displays.

The family would like to personally thank the VA Hospital, Dr. Garg and her caring staff for taking such excellent care of Will.  A very special thanks to Jamie from Home Healthwatch.  He was very gentle and took wonderful care of Will.

Friends may visit with the family from 11am on Tuesday morning, March 15th, at the Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703. A service will follow at 12 noon.  Burial will be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to a local Veteran’s Association on his behalf or donations may be made to Delaware Humane Association, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE or Cast -Away Cats of Delaware.

In keeping with Will’s spirit, he would like it if we all remembered him as we did and pass along a kind deed for someone we love.
