Roland M. "Ron" O'Brien Obituary

Roland M. “Ron” O’Brien, age 73, of Wilmington, DE passed away October 10, 2018 at home, surrounded by his family.

Born in Wilmington, DE, Ron was the son of the late Francis and Florence O’Brien. He graduated from high school in Florida. Ron worked as a carpenter for 10 years and Plant Operator for over 30 years, working at BP/ Conoco Phillips refinery in Marcus Hook, PA.  Mr. O’Brien served in Vietnam in the United States Air Force.

Ron enjoyed playing cards with his daughters and friends; he also enjoyed bowling, swimming and golfing. He loved spending time with his family, especially with his granddaughter, Allie, whom he loved dearly. He could not tell her “No” when she wanted to bring dogs home! Ron will be remembered for his cheerful smile and friendly outgoing personality. Everyone will miss him.

In addition to his wife. Janet B. O’Brien, Ron was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Johnny and Francis O’Brien of Florida.

Ron is survived by his daughters, Jean Marie and Kristen O’Brien; his granddaughter, Allie Cameron; sister, Theresa Bonvetti  (Duke); brother, Eugene O’Brien (Midget) of Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 19, 2018 at 12pm at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 3200 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703, where a viewing will be held beginning at 11am. Interment will follow mass in Lawn Croft Cemetery, Linwood, PA.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Elwyn Institute, 321 E. 11th Street, Wilmington, DE 19801
