Albert B. Thernlund, “Dad”, “Grumps” “Mr. Al” age 97, passed away peacefully at home with family in attendance on October 1, 2019 from natural causes. He was preceded in death by his wife of many years, Emma (Muehsam) Thernlund.
Albert grew up in Philadelphia, PA and entered the U.S. Army. He served in WWII as a tank mechanic and was honorably discharged with a T5 grade. After the war, he worked for the DuPont Co., Wilmington Shops and retired in 1983 as a Technician.
Retirement found Albert and Emma bit with the camping bug, spending winters in their trailer in Brownsville, TX and summers in their trailer in downstate Delaware. Albert especially enjoyed crabbing, cooking them and then giving them to friends and neighbors
Albert is survived by his son, Martin Thernlund and his wife Violet; daughter Elaine Ehrhorn and her husband Tom. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to commend the fourth floor nurses and doctors at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington for their care and compassion.
A Viewing will be held Monday, October 7, 2019 from 10am to 11am at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703, where a Funeral Service will begin at 11am. Interment will immediately follow in Lawn Croft Cemetery, Ridge Road, Linwood, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests considering donations to Compassionate Care Hospice, Amedisys Foundation 3854 American Way, Ste A, Baton Rouge, LA 70816.
