Caroline Hindsley Obituary

On February 20, 2021, our beautiful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Caroline Hindsley, went home to be with the Lord.

Carol was born in 1929 in Chester, PA to Nicholas and Mary Buonsante.   She was raised in Chester, PA and often told stories of living through the depression years and the wonderful and inventive ways her parents raised her and her five sisters during those challenging years.  She graduated from Chester High in 1947.    She married her first husband, Conrad J. Miller, with whom she shared four children.  They would eventually move to Claymont, Delaware where they worked together to raise their family.   Her determination and love to always be there for her family was always first and foremost in her life.  She loved to bake and cook and delighted her family with many delicious desserts and dishes, especially her homemade pasta.  “Her girls” meant the world to her as did her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.   She loved to spoil her family but nothing could out do the love she had for them and the many times she expressed it to all of us.  She will be missed immensely and our hearts will forever be broken but the lessons she has taught us and her loving ways will forever carry us through.

Carol worked in sales at Strawbridge and Clothier for many years at the Merchandise Mart.  She was also a bookkeeper at Triangle Engineering Company in Chester, PA and an Administrative Assistant at B&W Services in Boothwyn, PA before retiring.  She volunteered at Holy Rosary Church and was a member of the New Century Club of Chester.

Carol is predeceased by her parents, Nicholas and Mary (Daniels) Buonsante, first husband, Conrad J. Miller, second husband, Robert R. Hindsley,  son, John C. Miller, son-in-law, Leon D. Shaw, sisters, Giovanna McDonald, Philomena DiPaola, Josephine Jablonski, Rosemary Krantz and longtime companion, John Ashcraft.  She is survived by her daughters, Karen Soss (Marshall) of West Chester, PA, Cynthia Shaw of Middletown, DE and Constance Fitzwater (Robert) of Wilmington, DE; sister, Anna Purcell of Brookhaven, PA; 11 loving and devoted grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and loving nieces and nephews.
